The Red Dragon Centre steps up to support charities

The Red Dragon Centre is joining organisations nationwide to celebrate ‘One Great Day’, a charity fundraising event in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH) and local children’s health charities.

Alongside raising money for GOSH, The Red Dragon Centre will again fundraise for local Welsh charity Tŷ Hafan, with all funds raised being split equally between the two charities.

The popular entertainment centre in Cardiff Bay is inviting visitors to enjoy a great day out this September and support its fundraising effort by donating at the QR point underneath the One Great Day balloon arch. Alternatively, Ty Hafan fundraisers will be on hand to accept donations on the same weekend as the release of long-anticipated blockbusters No Time to Die and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The Centre’s management, security and cleaning staff are also coming together to take part in a steps challenge throughout the month, with a target of 152 miles – the distance from The Red Dragon Centre to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

In addition, marketing manager Emma Constantinou will be embarking on her own ‘One Great Challenge’, taking part in the virtual Cardiff Bay 10K, which is the equivalent distance from The Red Dragon Centre to Tŷ Hafan hospice.

Friends, family and even Centre customers are being encouraged to support the Centre team, named The Cardiff Bay City Strollers, by donating to their Virgin Money giving page at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/TheCardiffBayCityStrollers

Emma Constantinou, Marketing Manager at The Red Dragon Centre, said: “We’re excited to be able to support One Great Day again this year after the pandemic stopped us last year.

“We’re looking forward to smashing our challenges throughout September and hopefully raising much needed funds for the two incredible charities that support so many families throughout Wales and the UK.”

Paula Langston, Head of Fundraising and Community Engagement at Tŷ Hafan, said: “We are delighted to be a part of ‘One Great Day’ at The Red Dragon Centre and look forward to supporting the team in their challenges. Their enthusiasm and support are incredible, and we simply couldn’t provide care and support to the hundreds of children with life-limiting conditions and their families in Wales who need it every year without fundraising efforts like these and the generosity of the general public.”

‘One Great Day’ was established in 2014, introducing a series of community events throughout June to appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and other locally based children’s health charities. To date, the events have raised over £750,000 for more than 220 different children’s health charities across the country.
