A sunny Ceredigion welcomed the Tour of Britain for the start of the fourth stage of the race on Wednesday.

Leader of the Ceredigion County Council, Ellen ap Gwynn said: “What a beautiful sunny day to welcome the cyclists, event organisers, fans of the Tour of Britain to Ceredigion. The positive atmosphere in Aberaeron and along the routewith spectators enjoying the sun while practising safe distances as the race began is to be commended. As a county, we can be proud of being a host county for this momentous race. Congratulations to Gruff Lewis, a Welsh road cycling champion from Talybont who was taking part today and won the sprint at Borth. We wish him the best of luck with the rest of the event.”

ITV4 who televised the whole event commentated on the ‘friendly feel’ felt in Aberystwyth and throughout the route. Aberystwyth has a great track record of holding successful cycling events in the past.

Councillor Rhodri Evans, Cabinet Member for ‘Economy and Regeneration: “The fourth stage of Britain has been a big success here in Ceredigion with the cyclists racing through the county with positive fans and spectators giving a warm welcome; the event really has showcased our fantastic coast and countryside. Ceredigion has long supported cycling in the county and we look forward to building on this success by welcoming further events in the coming years. As we say here, once you’ve visited once, you will ‘Caru Ceredigion’ (Love Cerdigion) and want to come back again.”
