One of the most prominent buildings in Mountain Ash town centre, the former town hall, has had a makeover, making it fit for purpose in the 21st Century.
The Grade II listed building, majestically overlooking the town bridge at Ffrwd Crescent, was originally built in 1904 at a cost of £5,000. It initially served as the main offices of Mountain Ash Urban District Council and has continued to be used as a property of the respective local authority.
Having gained its listed status with Cadw due to its architecture and design, the premises has now been redeveloped into a co-working business hub by Final Frontier Space Holdings in partnership with the Council, with Welsh Government and RCT Council funding.
It will provide state-of-the-art flexible workspace for new start-ups and existing and local businesses, made possible due to funding from Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Funding and RCT Council.
The flexibility of both terms and workspace, along with the networking and business support that co-working hubs provide, can be critical in starting and growing a small business and ultimately supporting and creating jobs in the local area. The facility will be managed by Final Frontier Space Holdings as part of a network of flexible office space and co-working hubs across the County Borough.

“I am delighted that the redevelopment of the former Mountain Ash Town Hall is nearing its completion, providing business support for new start-up firms and existing local businesses.
“The building has a proud history and will continue to feature in the ever-changing landscape in the 21st Century. The Council continues with its ambitious programme of investment, with redevelopment schemes in and around our town centres very much a part of it
”Derelict and under-used buildings can often by an eyesore within communities and the Council continues to seek opportunities to secure external funding in order to redevelop these properties and bring them back into functional use where possible.”
The major transformation work at the former Mountain Ash Town Hall is now into the final stages of development and will be complete for occupation and operation later in the year.
