Local community plasterer and multi-tradesman Stephen Alun Hughes, 53, from Prestatyn, North Wales has won TradePoint’s August £150k Vantastic Monthly Giveaway Competition which sees shoppers in with a chance to win a brand-new van if they shop at TradePoint twice in one month.

TradePoint launched the competition to reward its customers, with the chance to win one of 6 brand new trading vans. Each month the competition is sponsored by a different brand including DeWalt, Dulux, Valspar, and Gyproc, with this month’s giveaway sponsored by Valspar paint.

This month’s winner, Stephen Alun Hughes is a plasterer and multi-trader in the community of Prestatyn, North Wales and comes from three generations of tradesmen, with his 22-year-old son following closely in his footsteps. After completing his apprenticeship scheme as a teenager, the now 53-year-old has built up his career in his community in North Wales.  Stephen will be trading in his old van for his brand-new Citroen thanks to the TradePoint Vantastic giveaway which can now get him safely from job to job in his hometown of Prestatyn and further afield.

Stephen said: “This van will genuinely be life changing for my business and will allow me to be more reliable as I won’t have the risk of my old van breaking down or it not coping with the winter weather. I’ll now be able to pick up more jobs and it will help keep me on the road as the world opens up more, and more jobs become available”.

At times, during the Covid-19 pandemic, work for tradesmen was often scarce and Stephen noted how grateful he was for larger trade stores that remained open as essential retailers such as B&Q and TradePoint, as it helped him and other multi- traders continue their trade and purchase supplies. Stephen plans to continue his career as a plasterer and multi-trader for years to come and feels excited to be able to take on bigger jobs thanks to the new van.  In the future, Stephen pictures himself transforming his new van into a campervan when he retires so he can travel and see the world with his wife.

Claire Taylor – Commercial Trading Manager from TradePoint commented: “We want to reward our TradePoint Members this year to say thank you for their continued loyalty, especially after the pandemic, and what better way than by giving them the opportunity to win a brand-new van that they can be proud of when they arrive at their customers’ homes or sites. We loved seeing Stephen’s face when we presented him with his new van and we know there will be many more happy faces to come as we continue this monthly competition.”
