Free buses continue throughout Christmas in Swansea

City residents will be able to take advantage of the #FreeRideSwansea initiative throughout the remaining festive period.

Apart from Christmas Day and Boxing Day, when no buses will be running, all bus passenger journeys starting and finishing in Swansea will be free until 7pm on December 31.

However, passengers and residents heading for the shops or hospitality businesses are being urged to continue to follow the Covid-19 rules updated by the Welsh Government yesterday (Fri) , including wearing masks while on board buses.

The free festive travel initiative started last month and thousands of passengers have been able to save their hard-earned cash for other festive activities by riding for free to get to places in the city by bus.

Now, in the last push to the big day, the Council is funding the free bus offer from Saturday 18 December up until Christmas Eve, giving the public the chance to pop into town to do some last minute shopping and save their pennies for buying gifts or enjoying a Christmas meal at a restaurant.

The free service will also continue after Christmas Day with free travel opportunities from 27 – 31 December.

Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “We’ve been able to provide free bus travel for everyone in Swansea at important times of the year during 2021, including summer holidays.

“The current free offer comes at a time that is really important for families in financial terms. We want to support families and help them have a great time over Christmas, hopefully reducing the expense by providing free travel, either to do some shopping, visit family friends or go out for a family meal.

“Obviously, the current pandemic situation means everyone still has to be responsible when they are either using public transport or visiting families, so please take care, wear a mask on the bus and pay attention to the changing health advice as we approach Christmas and the new year.”
