Newport City Council’s trading standards team is urging residents to be aware that illegal vapes are available in the city.

Disposable vape devices known by various names including ‘Geek Bars’ and ‘Nicotine Puffs’ contain an extremely harmful dose of nicotine.

Vape products sold in the UK must comply with certain requirements including:

    • They must contain no more than two per cent nicotine
    • They must contain no more than 2ml of liquid
    • The exact wording “This product contains nicotine which is a highly addictive substance” must be stated on the packaging
    • And a UK address must also be on the packaging

So far officers have found 220 illegal vapes for sale in five shops in Newport with a combined retail value of £2,100. They have been voluntarily removed from sale.

Anyone with information regarding the sale of these items in city is asked to contact [email protected] or call 01633 656656.
