New era for popular Swansea community hub

Clydach’s popular Forge Fach Community Hub is about to come under the control of the area’s community council – in an arrangement agreed with Swansea Council to secure the future of this valued community building.

A Swansea Council spokesperson said: “We’re delighted that the community council is to run Forge Fach from April 1. It’s an important building for local people and groups so it’s encouraging that the community council will be looking after it from now.”

Clydach Community Council is stepping in to ensure uninterrupted service after existing leaseholders Walsingham Support, who have successfully run Forge Fach for around seven years, indicated that they were refocusing on their core charitable aims.

These include the support of community-based education and skills development, volunteering and supported employment which they have been evolving locally since 1999.

A Clydach Community Council spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to be taking on Forge Fach for the good of the community. We’ll support its growth and will do all we can to maintain it as a key focal point for local people.”

Bookings and inquiries should continue as usual as the centre will continue to run without interruption.

Forge Fach Community Hub is owned by Swansea Council although its freehold was due to revert to the community council in the near future.

A development trust built the community resource centre but nine years ago, the trust went into administration so Swansea Council stepped in to ensure the centre remained accessible.

Walsingham Support took on the lease in 2015 and have since operated it as an inclusive community hub for the whole community.
