Works at Station Road in Treorchy during the school half term

RCT Council will undertake ground investigations at A4061 Station Road (near the Parc and Dare Theatre) during half term – to prepare for a second phase of work to strengthen the structures which support the road.

The Nant Cwm Parc Cantilever is located on Station Road and supports the road over the stream at the junction with Dyfodwg Street. The Council is carrying out ongoing work to replace the life-expired structure, as well as strengthening Institute Bridge, which both provide support to the main road.

The first phase of this scheme took place from summer through to autumn 2021, and then stopped due to seasonal restrictions on working in the river.

The upcoming ground investigations will be undertaken by contractor Walters Ltd, from Monday, February 21 – scheduled during the school half term holiday in order to minimise disruption. The work, lasting a week, will include carrying out trial holes in the footway and sections of the carriageway – which will facilitate the method of working for the main scheme later in 2022.

The ground investigations will require a single lane closure of the northbound carriageway on Station Road, along with the adjacent footway. Four-way traffic lights are needed, with the work likely to cause disruption to road users.

The bus stop opposite the Parc and Dare Theatre will be temporarily relocated to a position further north on Station Road, in order to facilitate the works.
