Two ‘drive-thru’ COVID-19 vaccination clinics in Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil will open this week.
The ‘drive-thru’ sessions will run from Monday 21 February to Friday 25 February 2022 and are for anyone aged 12+ who is due a booster, first, second, or third, dose.
From Monday afternoon next week, anyone living in Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf, or Merthyr Tydfil can drive up to any of our drive-thru clinics at Kier Hardie University Health Park, Merthyr Tydfil and Ysbyty’r Seren, Bridgend. No appointment is necessary and all those eligible aged 12+ can attend the ‘drive-thru’ between 1:30pm-4:00pm.
CTM UHB would urge those who have had the first and second dose to get their booster now. Like some other vaccines, levels of protection begin to wane over time. Getting the booster vaccine will help extend the protection gained from the first two doses and give longer-term protection. The booster will help to reduce the risk of needing admission to hospital due to COVID-19.
Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB’s Director of Covid-19 Vaccine Programme, Julie Keegan said: “While we’re really pleased so many people have taken up our offer of a vaccine, we remain absolutely determined that nobody will be left behind.”
“Part of that is to try and make the whole process as easy as possible which is where these ‘drive-thru’ clinics come from.”
The ‘drive-thru’ clinics mean you do not need an appointment and can just turn up on the relevant day to you, at a time to suit you, and receive your vaccine, without having to get out of the car.
Julie Keegan said, “There will be some people who have not taken up the vaccine offer because it was not convenient to go to our vaccination centres.”
“We received positive feedback from those attending our last drive through session, with some stating mobility challenges, difficulties in getting young people with disabilities into the centre, and childcare issues.”
We hope that offering ‘drive-thru’ vaccinations will remove some of the difficulties people may face in getting to our centres. It will be so much easier for some people as they do not even have to get out of the car.”
