Cardiff housing development reaches major milestone

A quarter of the homes being built at a new housing development in Cardiff have now been completed, and more than half of the homes have been sold.

Bellway is providing a total of 120 new-build homes at Rhiwlas at Plasdŵr, off Llantrisant Road bordering Radyr, where residents have moved into 34 properties. So far, 64 homes have been sold.

Launched in August 2020, the project provides a variety of detached, semi-detached and terraced properties for private sale, ranging from two to four-bedroom designs, and also includes 18 homes allocated for those in need of affordable housing.

The site presents a distinctive blend of architectural designs, divided between three character areas – classic, contemporary and traditional – inviting homebuyers to choose whichever style suits their personal tastes. Each property for sale is also provided with a garage or an allocated parking space on site.

The development also enjoys the benefits of being situated in Plasdŵr, Cardiff’s ‘garden city for the 21st century’. Up to 7,000 new homes are being built at Plasdŵr over a 20+ year period across a 900-acre site, which will also include shops, offices, four schools, pubs, restaurants, health centres and a leisure centre. Around 40% of Plasdŵr will be green space, including heritage woodland, sports pitches and play areas.

Daniel Shone, Sales Manager for Bellway Wales, said: “The rising demand for housing in Cardiff has already seen 64 homes sold at Rhiwlas at Plasdŵr.

“The development is attracting a real mix of people because the choice of architectural forms and practical home designs here offer them a range of options, in one of Cardiff’s leafiest and most scenic areas.

“The location is ideal for families as it is near schools, shops, plus sports and leisure facilities, while commuters will also benefit from the site being close to the M4, just a mile from Radyr railway station, and five miles from Cardiff city centre.

“Since the development is also within easy travelling distance of Cardiff Airport, it’s convenient for those travelling further afield as well.”

Construction work at Rhiwlas at Plasdŵr is projected to be completed by July 2023.
