Plans for two new purpose-built respite centres in Pontllanfraith, Blackwood, have been approved.
Planning permission was granted on July 8, 2026, for separate children’s and adults’ respite facilities designed to meet current and future demand.
The development will include a six-bed children’s respite centre for those aged between five and 18, alongside an eight-bed adult respite centre for people aged 18 and over.
The modern, flexible and accessible facilities will be fully equipped to meet the changing needs of service users while providing welcoming accommodation.
Following the approval of planning permission, the council will now move into the tender and construction phase of the project.
Cllr Teresa Heron, Cabinet Member for Social Care commented, “I’m pleased that planning permission has now been approved for the Children and Adult’s Respite Centre. This is an important milestone in the project and brings us a step closer to providing modern, purpose-built accommodation which promote independence, support family resilience and help carers to continue in their caring roles”.
The development is intended to provide a high-quality respite service that promotes independence while offering vital support to parents and carers across the borough.
