Machynlleth Library to host community open day

A north Powys library will be hosting an open day for their local community later this month.

Machynlleth Library will host an open day on Saturday 26 March between 11am 1pm.

Local author Emma Rea will be opening the day and reading from her 2014 children’s novel, Top Dog.

The novel, which is for children aged 7+, is set near Machynlleth and features a lad who dreams of building a world class bike track in his father’s fields and makes items to sell at the Wednesday market.

As part of the open day, which will be accompanied by music on the lawn, there will be stalls from partner organisations in the community – PAVO, CAMAD and Mid Wales Advice Centre.

There will also be children’s activities and exhibitions thanks to funding from the Winter of Wellbeing and Children Development Fund that has been administered by Powys County Council.

Nina Davies, the council’s Head of Housing and Community Development, said: “Machynlleth Library has operated throughout the pandemic. It continued to serve the community and, working closely with CAMAD and PAVO, provided a click and collect service that was valued highly during the lockdowns.

“However, many people have not had the opportunity to join a library in the last two years. We hope this open day will remind people of the varied and wonderful services that libraries provide and encourage new memberships.”

Leigh Munton, Machynlleth Branch Librarian, said: “We hope the people of Machynlleth and the Dyfi Valley will come down to our open day, which is an event for all the community.  We also hope that they sign up and become members of the library.”
