Aberdare Festival made a RECORD-BREAKING welcome return over the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend!

Over 16,000 people from Rhondda Cynon Taf and beyond flocked to the two-day event in beautiful Aberdare Park, enjoying a free screening of Disney’s Encanto, live performances from LA Performing Academy, the DB Big Band and poptastic tribute acts Beyonce Fierce, Stepz: The Experience, In The Mix and the Vengaboyz Experience.

It was the first time the popular Aberdare Festival has been held since 2019 due to the Coronavirus pandemic and it was clear people were delighted to see it return – especially as it was extended to a two-day event this year to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

Taking advantage of the warm weather and the long bank holiday weekend, thousands of visitors of all ages were in the park on both days, relaxing to live music, riding the land train through the gorgeous park, learning Parkour and circus skills, meeting farm animals and dinosaurs.

Cllr Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Council Business, said: “What a weekend at Aberdare Festival! The sun shone and everyone was in good spirits as the Platinum Jubilee celebrations spread through RCT.

“Thousands of people were at the event for both days to enjoy family fun, live entertainment and the chance to enjoy the long weekend in beautiful surroundings.

“It was great to see the much-loved Aberdare Festival return after two very difficult and challenging years. To know it came back and broke all records in its event history was amazing!

“Aberdare Festival is just one of the many What’s On RCT events happening in 2022, bringing a chance to celebrate and commemorate life in RCT to everyone. Make sure you check out the website or follow them on social media for news on upcoming events such as Big Welsh Bite, Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Nos Galan Road Races and more.”
