Resurfaced cycle path a hit with cyclists in Caerphilly

The cycle path leading from New Tredegar to Abertysswg has received praise from local cyclists after work was completed by Caerphilly County Borough Council to resurface part of the path.

Part of the National cycleway known as Route 468, leading from New Tredegar to Abertysswg which was previously unbound and water-logged, was hugely improved this February by introducing drainage features, to improve the water run-off issues and resurfacing a mile of the cycleway with a smooth tarmac finish, to make this route much more accessible for all users.

Sustrans, a charity dedicated to making it easier for people to walk and cycle said: “The Caerphilly Active Travel team have done a brilliant job upgrading this part of the National Cycle Network to a very high standard thanks to funding from Welsh Government.  We are receiving great feedback form the public and its enabling people to make every day journeys without using the car. We look forward to working with the local authority to improve and expand the network”

Cllr. Julian Simmonds, Cabinet Member for Highways & Transportation said: “We are thrilled to see the resurfacing of the cycle path between New Tredegar and Abertysswg being enjoyed by our residents and visitors to the area”.

“We at Team Caerphilly are ambitious about creating sustainable modes of transport in order to create a cleaner, greener borough for all.”
