How to make your home more modern

Whether you want to upgrade your house to appeal to sellers, bring it in line with the modern homes of the neighborhood, or just give an older and more traditional home a coat of paint and an upgrade, making your traditional home a bit more modern is pretty easy if you know what you are doing and what you want your home to achieve.

One of the first things you need to know about modern living is that ‘less is more.’ Using clean lines, neutral color palettes, and using color sparingly is one of the best ways to ensure that your house has a more modern style that will make your home feel more empty and open. As long as your home doesn’t seem too cluttered and over done, then you’ve got the start of a modern style, and a base you can build off of.

    Focus On Smaller Changes

While you might want to do a full and total overhaul of your home to make it more modern, ensure that you are keeping an eye on the smaller changes as well. For example, look at your light plates and outlet covers, and then see if you can give them an upgrade. Besides you don’t want to look at a completely renovated wall and then see an older and dated light switch cover. Instead fix your outlet and light switch covers, and that itself will bring an older house into the modern era.

Additionally, you can upgrade cabinet handles, faucets, and other pieces of hardware in order to make a difference to the way your house looks. Keep everything sleek and modern, and maybe throw on a fresh coat of paint on while you are at it. This will improve the rooms of your home without taking a massive amount of time and money to do so.

    Smooth Out Your Ceiling

Another quick fix is to remove the popcorn ceiling that peppers the ceilings of homeowners everywhere. While it might have been cool back in the olden days, it can just be an eyesore and a symbol of the home’s age right now. Thankfully, you don’t need to rip apart your entire roof to remove the popcorn, and instead you can just smooth it out without a ton of effort.

Just make sure to prepare the room and be prepared for a very large mess once you start scraping and smoothing out the wall!

    Go High Tech

Of course, making your house more modern isn’t just about changing what is already there, but also about adding a few new features that make you feel like you are living in the future. For example, installing a simple programmable thermostat is a great way to save money and also give you better control over your home temperature. Instead of having to set and forget your temperature, you just need to input your schedule and then the thermostat changes your temperature based on the time of day. Additionally, installing things like speakers, built in charging stations, motion detecting lights, and smart electronics can be very easy to install and add a lot of convenience to your life.

Automating your home with whole home automation systems and keyless entry features might take a while to figure out, but they can also go a long way to making your home feel modern and even futuristic… just as long as you press the right buttons!

Give People A Modern Feeling When They Walk Into Your House

If you want your house to fully feel modern, then a set of new doors is going to create a modern statement and increase the curb appeal of your home. Replace your doors with glass doors, french doors, or even internal glazed doors to make people feel good whenever they walk inside your house.

Replacing doors doesn’t have to take all day or leave your house open and without a door for hours on end. With just a little know-how, you can get the doors installed, and you might even have the time left over to upgrade the hinges and the handles.

Make Your Home Modern In No Time

Making your house more modern doesn’t mean years of upgrades or hiring countless contractors to do complicated upgrades and installations. Instead, you can make some smaller changes on your own that will bump your traditional home up all the way to being more modern. Then you can sit back and live the modern and the good life!
