A family-run farm in Powys has used a £300,000 finance package from HSBC to build two new luxury holiday homes.

Fourth-generation beef and sheep farmers Gareth and Julie Rees, who own Lower Pentre Farm near Llandrindod Wells, have used the HSBC funding to convert two derelict barns into self-catered holiday lets. A full-time job has also been created to help maintain the new properties.

The three and four-bedroom holiday homes are situated on the couple’s 350-acre farm, which boasts spectacular countryside views. Both properties feature an outdoor decking area with a hot tub, as well as spacious kitchens and bathrooms.

Gareth Rees, who co-owns Lower Pentre Farm with his parents, said:

“We’re always looking for ways to add value to our farm and with the support of our relationship manager at HSBC, Sue Jones, we’ve built a new element to the business. This is a very exciting time for our family and we’re delighted to welcome guests to our picturesque holiday homes.”

Euryn Jones, HSBC’s Regional Agriculture Director for South West and Wales, said:

“Gareth and Julie are passionate about their farm, which has been in the family for four generations. The holiday lets are a fantastic way to strengthen and create new opportunities for the business by making the most of resources available on the farm. We’re delighted to have supported them in this new venture.”

Lower Pentre, together with Upper Pentre Farm, are working beef and sheep farms with more than 50 cows and 1,200 breeding ewes. The farms were founded by Gareth’s great grandparents in 1904.  This new venture will help secure a future for Gareth and Julie’s three children to become the fifth generation at the farm.
