The humble TV, the cornerstone of every good lounge, where we spend hours engrossed in TV shows, YouTube videos, and our favourite films. A TV is an investment, there’s no doubt about that, but how do you know which TV to choose?

Today’s TV shopping is by no means an easy feat for the average street-shopper; OLED, QLED, Neo-QLED, QD-OLED, Mini-LED, you’re bound to be confronted by these terms on your search, but jargon aside – what does that mean for you?

Fret not, our little guide will cover the basics with a selection of TVs for each budget so you’ll know where to buy the best 65-inch TV soon enough.

True value: The best 4K TVs under £500

    Hisense 50A7100FTUK 50” 4K TV

Okay, we know what you’re thinking – how good could a £277 4K TV be? The answer: pretty good! There are no frills here, Hisense has just made a really solid 4K screen with HDR support, great Dolby sound, and a high-quality feel to the whole experience, and for a 50” screen, you really can’t complain.

    Samsung AU7100 55” Crystal 4K TV

Samsung’s Crystal TVs are their most basic 4K models, with no fancy panelling, no high-speed refresh rates or Dolby Vision, and yet this is a really great TV that you’ll be hard pressed to find any issues with. Samsung’s UI (that’s the software you use to browse) is silky smooth without a hint of lag, and despite not being a particularly revolutionary bit of kit, the Crystal 4K screen still delivers an incredible, immersive picture with decent brightness, colour – all for a great price.

Now we’re talking: The best 4K TVs under £1,000

    LG OLED48C16LA 48” OLED TV

LG has ruled the OLED scene for years now, and it’s plain to see why. Their OLED screens offer brilliant colour contrast, with darker black shades that have ever been possible on a standard 4K TV. Coupled with the break-neck response times of OLED tech, making input lag a thing of the past, LG’S OLED48C is truly a gamer’s best friend.

Now for the absolute cutting edge: £1,000 and up

Samsung 55-inch QN85B Neo QLED 4K Smart TV

One of Samsung’s finest TVs available; the QN85B Neo QLED smart TV is the absolute pinnacle of QLED technology. Bringing together the speed of OLED, with a 120Hz refresh rate, and the vibrance of Neo QLED: an even more precise form of panelling than standard QLED with an enormous colour range, Neo QLED is a force to be reckoned with.

Everything about Samsung’s QN85B oozes with quality, from its ultra-thin bezels that create a wonderful amount of immersion, to the fantastic 3D sound that never fails to draw you in. This is easily one of Samsung’s finest TVs, and if you’ve got the cash to splash, why not take the dive?

    Samsung 55-inch S95B QD-OLED 4K TV

Samsung has taken the cake this year, and eaten it too! In the first half of the year we saw the release of the S95B: one of the first commercially available QD-OLED TVs, combining the brightness, vibrance, and colour range of QLED, and the speed and contrast of OLED, creating a TV that is not far from perfection.

Razor-thin, with the tiniest bezels, but the boldest picture, Samsung’s S95B is a glimpse into a bright future, and with a peak brightness of 1,110 nits, that’s no understatement. Samsung has changed the game this year, and we’re as eager as ever to see how they’ll top this one.
