A Caerphilly County Borough resident has won £500 for recycling their food waste as part of the Borough’s Mash for Cash campaign.

Mr and Mrs Morrisey from Newbridge have been announced as the fourth winners of Caerphilly County Borough’s Mash for Cash campaign.

The Mash for Cash campaign was launched in March 2022 in line with Food Waste Action Week with an aim to increase the number of residents currently recycling their food waste.

The campaign sees houses monitored with one food recycling participant chosen at random each month, with each winner receiving £500.

The Local Authority hopes that the campaign will increase in food waste recycling participation, whilst the prize money could help residents during the current cost of living crisis.

Mrs Morrisey said: “We have been recycling our food waste for many years, as we know it is so important that reduce our waste wherever we can. Being recognised and awarded in this way is lovely – we couldn’t be happier.”

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure & Green spaces added: “Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Morrisey and a big thank you to all the residents who currently participate in recycling and food waste recycling who are helping us towards our goal to be net carbon neutral by 2030.

“There are still plenty of chances to win the £500 cash prize, so if you don’t currently recycle your food waste now really is the time to start.”

The Mash for Cash winners will continue to be announced every month throughout 2022.
