    Resurfacing works at De Winton Street Car Park in Tonypandy

    De Winton Street Car Park in Tonypandy will be closed for two days at the end of August for resurfacing work to take place. The car park will be closed on Tuesday, August 30, and Wednesday, August 31. 

    Free parking is available at nearby Council-run facilities – Tonypandy Upper Car Park (long-stay), Tonypandy Lower Car Park (short-stay) and Tonypandy Square Car Park (limited waiting) – all of which are open 24/7.

    The entire car park area will be resurfaced, and white lines repainted. Signage will be put in place ahead of the closures to advise users. The improvements are funded by the Council’s £26.365m Highways and Transportation Capital Programme for 2022/23.

    Councillor Andrew Morgan OBE, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Investment, said: “Work to improve Council car parks is continuing this year, with £45,000 set aside in the Council’s Capital Programme for repairs and upgrades. The work at De Winton Street Car Park will deliver a full resurfacing and lining of the facility, benefitting residents and visitors to Tonypandy.

    “This work follows improvements made at High Street Car Park, Aberdare, in November 2021 – which included resurfacing, better drainage, an access ramp renewal and better lighting. Traffic calming measures were also put in place at Tonypandy Upper Car Park in December 2021 to make it safer for users and pedestrians. The Council has also recently taken over the former NCP car park at Catherine Street in Pontypridd.

    “Work at De Winton Street Car Park will require it to be closed for two days, with free parking in Council-run car parks available nearby. Thank you to residents, businesses and visitors to Tonypandy town centre for their support while these improvement works are delivered.”
