Cycling hero Geraint Thomas and a host of Cardiff’s sporting talents are set to appear on a specially designed bus celebrating the city’s “outstanding” sports success.

The Tour De France winning cyclist’s image has been used alongside the Cardiff Blues, Cardiff City, and Cardiff Devils to decorate a double decker Cardiff Bus, which is set to take to the capital’s streets.

The design will celebrate Thomas’ Tour De France win, along with Cardiff City’s promotion to the Premier League, the Blues’ European Rugby Challenge Cup success, and the Devils’ being crowned Elite League Regular Season champions for the second year.

It has been designed in partnership with I Loves The ‘Diff, Cardiff City Football Club, the Blues and the Devils.

Cardiff Bus commercial manager Gareth Stevens said they were “delighted” to recognise the city’s sporting success.

He said: “Cardiff’s sporting talent really is some of the best in Wales, with Geraint Thomas’s fantastic achievement just the latest in a landmark year for the city.

“With so much success among the city’s football, rugby, ice hockey and cycling talents this year, we felt it was only right to recognise the outstanding work of all those involved.

“Our hope is that this bus will demonstrate the city’s ongoing pride in our sports stars’ success and act as a daily reminder of their amazing achievements.

“We would once again like to congratulate all our sports stars on a fantastic year.”

The double decker bus will also be used during Cardiff City match days as part of the operator’s shuttle service. It will run every 15 minutes between Wood Street and CCFC stadium, with the service starting two hours before the game kicks off and up to one hour after.
