Over the years, many Graphic Design graduates from University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) have secured successful design careers in the field of Sport. However, one achieved his dream job whilst studying…

Jac Elsey, currently studying BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Swansea College of Art UWTSD, recently got a job with the Scarlets, a Llanelli-based, nationally renown rugby team.

Jac landed a job as Graphic Designer for the Scarlets late last winter, in the middle of his second year at university, and has been able to utilise and apply what he is learning to a business close to his heart ever since.

“I always aspired to having a job as a designer in sport,” Jac says. “As a child I would draw kits for my favourite football club, Swansea City. So since being offered the job as Graphic Designer for the Scarlets in February 2022, it has been an absolute dream.

“Everyone at Parc y Scarlets is incredibly accommodating with my studies at UWTSD and are eager to help me progress professionally. Designing bilingually for the Scarlets community has also given me the motivation to improve my Welsh language skills.”

Embedded into the course as part of Graduate Employability Skills, all students are required to work with clients. The university is delighted that Jac has gone above and beyond the requirements of his course to move into a professional role within the company, allowing him to develop a rich external project portfolio with much more to come.

Trudy Waters, Scarlets Head of Marketing and Technology, says: “Jac has been an excellent addition to the team at Parc y Scarlets. His drive and enthusiasm is infectious and his innovative work has given a fresh, dynamic feel to our social media and marketing campaigns, which is testament to the course at UWTSD.

“As well as in and around the stadium and on our website and social media channels, you can also see Jac’s designs across the region on our digital and static advertising boards.”

Donna Williams, Programme Manager of BA Graphic Design at UWTSD, says: “It is good to know that Jac is having such a positive working experience with Parc y Scarlets and that local companies are supporting young people into their dream jobs. Onwards and upwards into your final year Jac, and good luck to the Scarlets for this season!”
