Swansea recycling shop proves a hit with Christmas shoppers

Residents in Swansea can grab a bargain for Christmas at the city’s main Recycling Centre.

Swansea Council’s successful ‘Tip Treasures’ shop – the onsite store at Llansamlet Recycling Centre, is brimming with household items donated by residents.

Everything from furniture, bicycles, televisions, ornaments, clothing, CDs and DVDs can be purchased at the shop.

The Council developed the shop several years ago to divert items from landfill and enable them to go to families that need them.

Since then, thousands of everyday household items have passed through the shop and sold to families in the city.

The shop has also been expanded during recent years, more than doubling the size of the original shop.

Cyril Anderson, Cabinet Member for Community, said: “Tip Treasures has been a huge success. Residents have really seen the value in either donating items or calling in to pick up a bargain.

“Previously, much of what has been donated to the shop may have ended up in landfill and we wanted to ensure these items were put to good use.

“With the current ongoing cost of living crisis, there’s also never been a better time than now to purchase household items at the shop. We know families are struggling, especially in the build up to Christmas. Hopefully families can save some money and get some of the things they need to have a good Christmas.”
