The award-winning Oakdale Community Centre supports many local voluntary groups and continues to improve its facilities for all its users. They are at the heart of the community and offer a wide range of activities to suit all age groups, from pre-school to pensioners. The Centre supports an array of groups and organisations, including a lunch club, tai chi, art and craft groups, slimming groups, History groups and photography clubs. The Centre has also recently set up a Warm Welcome Hub, offering free refreshments and a warm space to address the isolation of many members within the community.

The cost of the upgrade project was £3296.00 with Oakdale Community Centre receiving £2636.80 from a grant. This grant was awarded to Oakdale Community Centre through Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Oakdale Community Benefit Fund which is administered by the BERT team on behalf of Resonance – Pen Y Fan Windfarm Ltd who provide the funds to help support community projects based within a 2-mile radius of the Windfarm.

The grant was used to upgrade the main kitchen in the centre, replacing worn and damaged worktops, relocation of units and the installation of a new instant hot water tap. These improvements have benefited all the local activities and services for all users of the centre. The upgrade will also help attract more occasional users, making it more inviting for private hire and meeting space use.

The centre has a Main Hall seating 80, with projection facilities for laptop or DVD presentations, PA system and hearing loop. It also has a Lower Hall, seating 60, with flat screen TV/DVD player. The centre also provides free wi-fi, has full disabled access and ample free parking.
