Children had plenty of fun on their plates and picked up healthy tips at Bridgend County Borough Council’s first ever ‘Food and Fun’ programme.

[aoa id=”1″]Held over three weeks at Afon Y Felin Primary School, the programme saw some of the school’s pupils joined by youngsters from the nearby Corneli Primary School, Pil Primary School, Mynydd Cynffig Primary School and Ysgol Y Ferch o’r Sger to enjoy a summer of activities and healthy eating.

The food-based fun included cooking and nutrition sessions, while the menu of activities also included rugby with Ospreys in the Community, pond dipping, yoga, Parkour (stunts), building benches and pyrography, lifesaving and beach safety, money tips from V2C, animal tracking with the Kenfig Nature Trust, and even a visit from a sheep and a cow![/aoa]

The programme was funded by Welsh Government and the council and supported by partners including ABMU dieticians, Designed to Smile, Awen and the local emergency services.

It’s vital to keep spreading the healthy eating message among the younger generation so we’re pleased to have held our first ever ‘Food and Fun’ programme.

It offered an entertaining mix of outdoor activities, blended in with some basic cooking skills to create a recipe for fun! The children who attended the programme were also joined by their parents and siblings one day a week so that they could enjoy a healthy meal together.

I’d like to thank all of the staff who worked so hard to put together our inaugural ‘Food and Fun’ programme and all of our partners who offered such diverse activities for the children to take part in.

Councillor Dhanisha Patel, the council’s Cabinet Member for Wellbeing and Future Generations
