A housing project in the centre of Porthcawl spearheaded by local community housing provider, Valleys to Coast, alongside design, build, fit-out and refurbishment specialist, Paramount, has entered an exciting new phase.

The development, which is intended to serve the over-50s in the Bridgend region, kicked off works in February 2023 and once completed, will be a welcome addition to the Porthcawl skyline, where demand for one-bedroom accommodation is very much on the rise.

The new 20-property development on the site of a former garage and bus depot on Old Station Road will consist of 17 one-bedroom and three two-bedroom accommodation.

Recent weeks has seen a new crane erected on the site, and construction reaching a significant milestone with the installation of the new Metsec frame system at the development.

The 20 EPC ‘A’ flats, which will be built using a panelised Metsec construction method, and incredibly energy efficient. Homes will incorporate the use of solar PV, and EV charging points, and will not contain gas, helping Valley to Coast work towards their commitment to build homes that are fit for the future.

Rob Green, Head of Development & Regeneration at Valleys to Coast, said; “It’s fantastic to see the new properties here at Old Station Road gathering momentum towards completion.

“We have been working very closely with Paramount over the past 24 months to get this development off the ground and we are thrilled to see the progress to date.

“The development will provide 20 new homes in the Porthcawl area and having seen the progress to date, we’re confident that these homes will be complete by April 2024.”

The project has been carried out in close partnership with Cardiff-based design and build specialists, Paramount, and architects, Spring Design, who have worked alongside Valleys to Coast to deliver homes of an exceptional standard.

Valleys to Coast secured £2.8M in funding from the Welsh Government Social Housing Grant supported by Bridgend County Borough Council.

Paul Thomas, Construction Director at Paramount, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Valleys to Coast and to see these homes take shape. This project will help bring 20 energy-efficient and hi-spec properties to an in-demand area.

“The development has hit several key milestones in the last few weeks and is now entering an exciting new phase. We are looking forward to completing this project alongside Valleys to Coast and to deliver these brilliant new homes to the region.”

Paramount, whose turnover currently stands at £38.5 million, is well known across Wales and England where it has created high-quality space for a number of leading companies, including Gareth Bale’s Par 59 bars and the refurbishment of the iconic Hodge House building on St Mary’s Street, Cardiff.
