The summer holidays are here and we have some exciting, family, budget-friendly things to do in Neath Port Talbot.

For instance, the free-of-charge Aqua Splash on Port Talbot’s popular Aberavon Beach has just been dubbed by a mother who took her children there as ‘the best water park in Britain’ – her accolade being trumpeted by one of the UK’s top selling newspapers.

The NPT Youth Service is holding a range of activities for young people aged 11+ in the summer holidays including table tennis, circus skills, spray painting, outdoors games and free food! Check out the service’s social media channels for details on dates, times and locations:

The council’s Family Information Service has compiled a list of family activities happening throughout Neath Port Talbot during the summer holidays. These include events at NPT libraries, and country parks.

View the online What’s on Guide: https://www.npt.gov.uk/whatson or check out the service’s Facebook channel: @NPTFIS .

Celtic Leisure has a timetable of fun activities this Summer at each of its centres – Neath Sports Centre, Pontardawe Leisure Centre, Aberavon Leisure & Fitness Centre, Neath Leisure Centre, and Vale of Neath Leisure Centre. Bookings can be made by speaking to one of Celtic’s receptionists on 08000 43 43 43. Spaces are limited so call now to book.

NPT PASS (Physical Activity and Sports Service) is holding multi-sport activities as part of its ‘In the Parks’ summer programme including Sports Camps at various locations.  Check out its social media channels for details of dates, times and locations: Facebook: @ntpass.

Neath Port Talbot’s hinterland is covered with forests whose cool interiors are perfect for bracing walks or thrilling mountain bike action – statistics show Neath Port Talbot has more tree cover than any other part of Wales and is in the UK’s “tree cover top ten”.

Safe cycle routes can be enjoyed across Neath Port Talbot. Whether it’s disused railways through relaxing countryside or following canal towpaths past locks and bridges, there are dozens of family-friendly places waiting to be discovered.

Other leading NPT attractions include Margam Country Park, regularly voted among the top ten most popular parks in Britain, (entry free, £7.20 for car parking) featuring activities like horse riding, fishing, lake boating and archery – plus a Go Ape tree top adventure activity. The Margam Activity Centre also offers peddle karts, stand up paddle boarding, bush craft and kayaking. (https://goape.co.uk/locations/margam).

Neath’s Gnoll Estate Country Park is a 100-acre 18th Century landscaped garden with lakeside and woodland walks, restored formal cascades, a grotto, coarse fishery, ponds, a play area, adventure playground and visitor centre plus a shop, toilet facilities and cafè. Entry free – parking £2.60 per half day, £3.60 all day.

Neath Abbey was founded in 1130. By the late 13th Century it was one of Wales’s wealthiest abbeys. Virtually the entire Abbey layout and its buildings can still be seen today.(Free entry).

Councillor Cen Phillips, Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Nature, Tourism and Wellbeing, said: “Providing opportunities for children, young people and families to get out over the summer holidays can help their wellbeing and promote their emotional and physical health. There are plenty of free and reasonably priced things to do throughout the county borough.”
