Visitors to Oystermouth Castle are set to receive a royal welcome in a special Princes and Princesses Day on Monday 28 August.
The event, which is part of the castle’s summer programme, will feature a range of activities for children and families, such as storytelling, crafts, games and a costume competition.
Visitors are encouraged to dress up as their favourite royal characters and join in the fun. Oystermouth Castle, which dates to the 12th century, has been conserved in recent years with improved access to the chapel and added visitor facilities.
Swansea Council is presenting Princes and Princess Day at the castle in association with the Friends of Oystermouth Castle.
Councillor Robert Francis-Davies, cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “Oystermouth Castle is a fantastic attraction for visitors and residents alike, and we are delighted to host this Princes and Princesses Day as part of our summer programme. It’s a great opportunity for children and families to enjoy a fun day out at the castle, while learning about its history and heritage.”
Marie Hughes, secretary of the Friends of Oystermouth Castle, a charitable organisation run by volunteers that supports the conservation and promotion of the castle, said: “We are delighted to invite everyone to join us for this fun and educational day. We want to share our passion for the castle and its history with the younger generation and inspire them to appreciate this amazing site.”
The group also offer guided tours for visitors of all ages. Marie added: “The castle is a treasure trove of stories and secrets that are fully revealed during our guided tours.”
Visitors to the castle are being encouraged to leave the car at home and take advantage of the council’s free bus service, which ends on Bank Holiday Monday. The free buses offer applies every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from Friday 28 July to Monday 28 August, journeys must start before 7pm and be within the Swansea Council area.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies added: “The free bus initiative has been a huge success and welcomed by many families, making days out, to places like Oystermouth Castle, more affordable.”
Princes and Princesses Day will run from 11am to 4.30pm on Monday 28 August. Normal admission charges apply.
