As the countdown continues to the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 1st, event sponsors Principality Building Society are helping first time buyers ‘get a step ahead’ by offering one lucky person the chance to win £24,207 towards their first home.

The prize isn’t just a random number. It’s 10% of the average house price in Wales, as per Principality’s Wales House Price Index Q2, which provides the people of Wales with an average property price in each of the 22 local authorities across Wales.

As well as offering the opportunity for a first-time buyer to win their house deposit, Principality and Cardiff Half Marathon are working together to create and share healthy habits that really pay off. From saving for your first home to pushing through the long nights of running, they aim to help you get across the finish line of both milestones.

Vicky Wales, Chief Customer Officer for Principality Building Society, said: “As we countdown to race day, we’re proud to be launching our new Healthy Habits initiative. We understand that the current financial climate means it’s particularly tricky for first time buyers to take a step onto the property ladder and that saving isn’t always something that can be prioritised. In fact, there’s more than one similarity between training for a marathon and savings money, whether it’s for your first home, or to buy a new pair of trainers.

“We believe that by adopting a few healthy habits, using a little and often approach, you can achieve great things. We’re delighted to be giving a first-time buyer that very special boost with our prize draw, whilst providing tips that will give many more a helping hand too for whatever their savings goal might be.”

Matt Newman, Chief Executive at Run4Wales, said: “As we gear up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the race this autumn, the launch of Principality’s house deposit giveaway competition really does add to the excitement and anticipation.

“It’s a truly life changing sum of money and we’re delighted that everyone signed up for the 2023 Principality Cardiff Half will be able to double their chances of winning, with an automatic additional competition entry if they’re able to supply an eligible registration ID – which can be found in the confirmation e-mail received when signing up for the race. Best of luck to everyone taking part!”
