Cardiff and Vale College’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) has become affiliated to the 157 (Welsh) Transport Regiment of the Royal Logistics Corps.

The affiliation took place at a special ceremony at Maindy Barracks in Cardiff, home of the 157 (Welsh) Regiment RLC. CCFs offer young people a broad range of challenging, adventurous and educational activities, aimed at developing personal responsibility, leadership and self-discipline.

CAVC CCF Commander and Public Services Lecturer Tom Jones said:

“In the College CCF we champion the Armed forces and the work they do. We could not ask for a better sponsor than the 157 (Welsh) Transport Regiment. Their family ethos and commitment to professional development and community engagement mirrors our own College’s mission.

“The CCF will be an integral part of the College’s enrichment programme, offering military themed experiences, skills training, vocational qualifications and opportunities that are not readily available outside of the College – all which will develop employability among our learners. We will work closely with 157 to build a professional relationship that engages not only our students, but also our members of staff and future education and training provision.”

Commanding Officer 157 (Welsh) Transport Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Marcie Madams said:

“As the Commanding Officer I am absolutely delighted to see 157 (Welsh) Regiment RLC affiliated with Cardiff and Vale College. As Tom, their Contingent Commander says, the CCF will allow students to build resilience and self-confidence while developing their leadership skills and with our shared values, we will be very much part of that.

“I am a firm believer that those who belong to CCFs stand out among their peers and we in the Regiment are very much looking forward to working with Cardiff and Vale College to make this happen. The Cadet organisation engages, empowers and inspires and it is a privilege to be able to support the college’s CCF in shaping the future – our young people.”
