Trivallis given green light by housing regulator

Trivallis, the biggest housing association in Rhondda Cynon Taff and one of the biggest in Wales, has been successful in regaining the highest level of approval from Welsh Government.

Just 18 months ago, the Welsh Government Housing Regulator voiced concerns over the way Trivallis was run and put it under review. Trivallis were asked to come up with an improvement plan and the Regulator took a more hands-on approach to monitoring its finances and leadership.

A new Chief Executive, Duncan Forbes, was brought in and a new Chairman of the Board, Nick Beckett, was also appointed.

Following a year of hard work by staff and Board, and after a period of significant change, Welsh Government has now agreed that Trivallis is not only partly meeting the standards set for housing associations in Wales, but is meeting them completely. It has awarded Trivallis a GREEN fully compliant rating.

Trivallis Chairman, Nick Beckett, said: “I’m very happy that Welsh Government believes that Trivallis is led effectively and well managed. We provide services that meet people’s needs and expectations and compare well with the quality of services delivered by other associations. We are managing our finances well and have enough money to meet current and future business needs.

“This result has only been achieved through a lot of hard work by staff and Board members, and I want to thank everyone for pulling together and doing everything they can to turn things around.”

Emma Nicholas is a Trivallis tenant and Chair of the Tenant Action Panel. She said: “I’m proud of my home and love living on an estate with friendly, helpful neighbours. It’s good to know that the organisation which owns my home and takes care of the repairs is well-run. The staff work hard to make sure that tenants, homes and estates are looked after properly, and I’m pleased that Welsh Government have recognised this.”

Chief Executive, Duncan Forbes, added: ” We know that we’re just beginning a long journey. Even though we’ve worked hard over the past year to lay strong foundations, there’s still a lot to do. Our goal is to provide safe, secure, and affordable homes to people who really need them. We also want to make our communities better and support people in RCT to enjoy healthier and happier lives. We’re excited about the steps we’re going to take in the months and years ahead to make sure we achieve all of this.  I want to express a huge thanks to the staff, Board and involved tenants who made this possible.  I also want to thank the Regulatory Team at Welsh Government for their challenge, support and oversight”
