Pictures show progressing being made to Pontypridd arts centre

Images show the progress being made in the early stages of the Muni Arts Centre (Y Muni) project in Pontypridd.

The exciting redevelopment in partnership with Awen Cultural Trust got underway in September – to reopen the Muni next year as a multi-purpose and fully-accessible events venue.

Early activity has seen the works site being set up by contractor Knox & Wells, while scaffolding has been installed to the building exterior and strip-out/demolition works have started inside.

The image on the top-right is looking towards the old stage area, and shows how the auditorium linings have been stripped.

The bottom-left image shows the soft strip of the auditorium getting underway to the rear of the room, looking in the direction of the new bar and retractable seating.

The wall linings for the mezzanine have also been removed, revealing the building’s existing windows – illustrated in the bottom-right image.

The strip-out/demolition works are continuing while, later this month, residents will notice the site hoardings being installed externally and the main roof works getting underway.

This project is being delivered using UK Government Levelling Up funding, after £5.3m was secured by the Council during late 2021.

We’ll continue to provide project updates as this scheme progresses in the weeks and months ahead.
