Charity highlights the health benefits of keeping yourself and your home warm this winter

Age Cymru is launching its winter resilience campaign Spread the Warmth to highlight the ways people can keep warm to stay safer and in better health this winter.

The charity says warmth is a basic need which we all require alongside food, water, and rest, to survive.

The campaign is underpinned by its newly updated guide Winter Wrapped Up that explores what you can do to get yourself and your home ready for winter, as well as where to go for more information and support.

The guide provides recommendations on arranging safety checks on your heating system, and how to access financial support to help pay for heating costs.  It also highlights practical tips on how to keep the heat in and the cold out of your home.

Winter Wrapped Up explores how to keep yourself warm both at home and outside by, for example, eating well, moving regularly, and wearing several layers of clothing. It also urges people to arrange flu vaccination and covid-19 booster jabs as soon as possible.

Age Cymru’s Health Initiatives Officer, Angharad Phillips says: “We want people to recognise that warmth, wellness, and safety go hand in hand at this time of year.

“We hope that our campaign and supporting guides and factsheets will enable people to get the information they need to plan for a warm and safe winter.

“There will also be lots of initiatives happening at a local level to help people, so please reach out and seek the support you need.”
