Recognised for their sterling service, the catering team at Bryntirion Comprehensive School stole the award for ‘Catering Team of the Year’ at the Lead Association for Catering in Education (LACA WALES) awards, held at the Vale Resort last month.

Leanne Rees-Sheppard, cook at kitchen two of Bryntirion Comprehensive School, said: “As a team we are very proud to have been nominated for and delighted to have won the ‘Catering Team of the Year’ award.

“Having attended school council meetings and listened to the pupils, it was clear that they wanted to see healthier and more sustainable alternatives, such as plant-based options, on the menu.

“Being the link between the pupils and Catering Services, I asked if we could trial the new products planned for the updated menu. Our Year 7 pupils were asked to sample the food and their valuable feedback proved to be very successful.

“We are looking forward to working with the pupils again in the future to ensure that their voices are heard.”

At the awards, the spotlight on Bridgend County Borough continued with a host of other nominations.   Nottage Primary School was also nominated for ‘Catering Team of the Year’, the Catering Service Management Team for the ‘Management Team of the Year’ as well as for ‘Innovation’, and finally, Emma Bennett, Catering Operational Manager, was nominated for the ‘Emerging Talent’ award.

Louise Kerton, Team Manager Catering Services, said: “I am extremely proud of our catering services for being shortlisted for many of the award categories at the LACA Wales Region awards. It was lovely to see the staff being recognised for all their hard work – work which ensures the best possible service provision for our pupils across Bridgend County Borough.”

The award received by the catering team at Bryntirion Comprehensive School, together with the array of other nominations across our catering services, reflects the high-quality provision that our teams offer. Well done everyone! You should be very proud!
