AN OPTICIANS in Newport has committed to raising money for a childhood cancer charity throughout January to mark its one-year anniversary.

Specsavers Spytty Road, which opened its new store in January 2023, hosted a party and had cakes, sweets, balloons and party hats for sale.

Staff and customers came together to support Shine Bright Support, a charity which was founded by a family who experienced dealing with osteosarcoma when eight-year-old Eleri Hooper’s treatment was unsuccessful and she passed away in September 2019. The charity provides mental health support to children and their families that are dealing with childhood cancer by helping to fund professional ‘split’ treatment centers, volunteers, training and counselling.

Haylie Pritchard, director at Specsavers Spytty Road and godmother to Eleri, said: “As we mark our one-year milestone in our new store, it’s important to us that we celebrate not just our successes but also to contribute meaningfully to the community.

“Shine Bright Support is a cause very close to my heart as Eleri’s godmother, so I’m very fortunate to have a team that supports me by being so passionate to support their mission in providing vital assistance to families dealing with childhood cancer.

“Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to our fundraiser so far.”

The store has raised £70 to date, and is continuing to sell wristbands, lanyards, pop sockets, and trolley coins in hope to raise that total to above £100.
