The Vale of Glamorgan Council has installed a drinking water fountain in the popular coastal resort of Penarth.

In line with the Council’s Project Zero objectives, the free bottle-filling station aims to reduce use of disposable plastic bottles, offering an environmentally and economically friendly alternative to purchasing bottled water.

Funded by the Council’s Annual Coastal Infrastructure Capital Budget, earmarked for maintaining and enhancing the County’s coastal resorts, the installation of the water fountain follows the opening of two showers on Penarth Beach.

Located on Cliff Hill, opposite Penarth RNLI Lifeboat Station, the water fountain backs on to the new showers, using the same water supply.

Councillor Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services said: “Penarth town and coastal resort is a popular destination for swimming groups and visitors throughout the year.

“The new showers on Penarth Beach have proven very popular, and so I’m delighted to offer another facility to enhance the experience of those that live and visit the town.

“I hope the new water fountain will prove just as popular and reduce use of single-use plastic, in turn protecting our wonderful coastline.”
