ONE of Wales’s leading cancer charities is teaming up with local businesses to raise vital funds during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

Breast cancer is now the most common cancer across Wales and the UK, and accounts for around 30% of all cancer cases in women.

To fight these statistics and support women with breast cancer, Cancer Research Wales invests substantial funds in research to help prevent, diagnose and treat breast cancer.

The charity currently funds £300,000 on two research projects in Wales.

The first research project aims to determine whether a new drug could delay or prevent metastatic breast cancer, which is responsible for 90% of cancer-related deaths.

Another project funded by the charity intends to establish a link between genetic mutations and drug resistance in breast cancer. Such research contributes to developing better personalised treatment approaches for people diagnosed with breast cancer in Wales.

    Dr Bethany Routley says:

“Each year, over 2,700 women in Wales are diagnosed with breast cancer, which equates to around 7 women a day. Although significant breakthroughs have been made in recent history, more work is needed to better understand breast cancer, and to develop new and better treatments. The crucial work of Cancer Research Wales funded scientists would not be possible without our fantastic supporters.

“To see local businesses getting involved and supporting us, is very encouraging. Aside from raising funds, it’s vital we raise awareness, so we can all truly make a difference and fight breast cancer.”

To further invest in such vital research, Cancer Research Wales is teaming up with various businesses across the nation. Whilst some are hosting special events, like St David’s Hotel’s Pink Afternoon Tea, other businesses have created specific products to raise awareness of breast cancer and support the charity’s research.

Amongst the charity’s supporters is Spectrum Collections, a Welsh business that has made headlines with their unique, cruelty-free and vegan make-up brushes. For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the beauty label has created a limited edition ‘sweetheart’ brush.

Other businesses that support Cancer Research Wales during October are Thornbush Candles, who will donate a percentage of their sales to the welsh charity. These include the Pink Champagne and Pomelo Candle, Reed Diffuser, as well as their Hand and Body Wash.

Delicious Monster Tea and Fizz Goes Pop also support the charity and created a package of handmade t-shirts with Beyoncé’s song “Feeling Myself”, paired with Boob Earrings. A spectacular £10 from each sale will be donated to the charity.

Cancer Research Wales is well-known for its fundraising events and its support in cancer research in Wales. During October, the charity runs numerous events as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To find out more how you can support the cancer charity, visit https://breastcancerawarenessmonth.wales/
