The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre is bringing back its popular Jazz Club for a new autumn season showcasing emerging musical talent.
Delivered in partnership with Beacons Cymru, the monthly programme will celebrate artists working across jazz, jazz-inspired music, funk, soul and R&B.
Hosted in The Riverfront’s intimate studio space, the Jazz Club provides a platform for local and Welsh performers while allowing audiences to enjoy live music in a relaxed setting.
The autumn season opens on Friday 11 September with jazz vocalist and songwriter Elijah Jeffery, accompanied by the Josh Sharp Quartet.
Hampshire-born Jeffery is a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and has collaborated with acclaimed musicians including Claire Martin OBE and Alex Garnett.
His music brings together jazz, soul, folk and singer-songwriter influences, as showcased on his debut EP, One of Her Clowns, and a recent duo album recorded with pianist Eddie Gripper.
He will be joined by jazz double bassist Joshua Sharp, another graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
Sharp has performed extensively across the UK and appeared at Ronnie Scott’s as part of Phil Meadows’ Future Movers project, which showcases emerging jazz talent.
The programme continues on Friday 9 October with Newport-born multidisciplinary artist OGUN.
His genre-defying sound combines Hip-Hop, UK Rap and Jazz Rap, drawing inspiration from the powerful Nigerian spirit ‘Ogun’, known as “The One Who Opens The Way”.
His music balances lyrical skill with intricate rhythms, memorable hooks and innovative production, while exploring personal and global themes.
South Wales artist Lucy Borja will close the autumn programme on Friday 6 November.
Her genre-blending sound combines R&B and pop with influences from Latin pop and alternative dark pop.
Described as “Heavy Painted in Light”, her music features fearless lyricism, emotional honesty and storytelling.
Borja has a background in professional acting and has lived in London and southern Spain, bringing theatricality and a global perspective to her performances.
She has appeared on S4C’s 3 Cân and Heno, featured in Golwg magazine and been interviewed on BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio Wales.
