In response to the evolving landscape for bus operators in Wales and the conclusion of the Welsh Government’s Bus Transition Fund (BTF) on 31st March 2024, Cardiff Bus has announced that it has had to review its fares.

As of 31st March 2024, the operator will implement revised fares to adapt to the move from government funding to customer-generated revenue. In this transition however, Cardiff Bus will continue to maintain its app exclusive offers and has introduced new money saving ticket offers to ensure passengers continue to experience convenient and budget-friendly travel options.

Customers who opt to purchase app exclusive tickets will see significant savings compared to on-the-day purchases, with a single journey ticket costing just £2.00, which is 20p less than on board fares today.

While also recognising the unique challenges faced by customers during school-run hours, the bus operator has launched an app exclusive ‘School-Run’ ticket that is priced at £6 and is available for journeys in the Cardiff, Llandough and Penarth areas on school days between 07:00 and 19:00. This innovative School-Run ticket allows an adult to travel accompanied by up to three children, providing a convenient solution for parents navigating the busy school drop-off and pick-up routine. Alternatively, the ticket can be used by adults traveling alone, making it ideal for quick errands or trips between school runs.

Gareth Stevens, Commercial Director of Cardiff Bus, said: “We have always tried to ensure that we offer fares that are affordable, great value for money and are constructed in way that we can ensure we offer a level of flexibility for the journeys our customers make.

“Cardiff Bus remains committed to providing affordable, great value for money, and flexible travel options for our passengers.”
