The University of South Wales (USW) has announced it will continue its sponsorship of the ABP Newport Marathon Festival as official partner.

The event, which takes place on Sunday 28th April, will see more than 6,000 runners take to the streets of Newport for the new-look festival of running, featuring all-new marathon, half marathon and 10K courses for 2024.

USW has been a partner since the event’s inception in 2018 and its campus building on Usk Way has been an integral base for runners ahead of them setting off around the city.

Dr Ben Calvert, University of South Wales Vice-Chancellor, said: “The University is once again proud to be an official partner for the Run 4 Wales ABP Newport Marathon Festival 2024.

“We are really excited to be able to welcome runners to our Newport Campus as they begin their race and set off around the city.

“As the region’s University, we are thrilled to be at the heart of the Newport community and to be playing a key part in what has become a major event for both the city and the University.”

For the first time, the Newport Marathon and 10K will be joined by a new half marathon distance to create a full festival of running for all abilities and ambitions.

The newly designed courses will also improve the atmosphere and event experience whilst retaining their flat and fast nature which are favourable for runners looking to secure a PB.

Matt Newman, Chief Executive at event organisers Run 4 Wales, added: “We’re really excited to be bringing back our new-look marathon event to the streets of Newport and we’re so grateful for the continued support of our partners.

“University of South Wales has been with us from the start and is an essential part of enabling the smooth running of the event, kindly offering us space to operate on event day in their campus on Usk Way.

“The fantastic university building is an asset for the whole community and not just for USW students.  With first class meeting and event facilities for businesses and community groups, we are thrilled that our runners can use the Campus café and toilet facilities on the morning of the race.”
