Popular dog-friendly charity event returns to Welsh capital

Dogs and their owners are set to enjoy a fun day out this spring in aid of a local charity.

City Hospice’s Wag this Way event returns on 28 April and will feature a 5km sponsored walk through the grounds of Bute Park and access to a dog festival.

The festival will be hosted by Radio Cardiff presenters Wyburn & Wayne and will feature live entertainment, interactive dog activities to get involved in, a variety of market stalls and a dog show hosted by the event’s sponsor Cardiff Veterinary Centre. The show allows pooches to compete for a coveted rosette in categories such as ‘dazzling duo’, ‘gorgeous girl’ and ‘handsome hound’ among others.

Headline sponsor Cardiff Veterinary Centre, which is an independent small animal veterinary practice based in the capital, has chosen to support Wag this Way in recognition of the vital work that City Hospice carries out to support local people in the community.

City Hospice is the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in the capital and provides care for those with life-limiting or terminal illnesses, in addition to bereavement support and counselling for the families of its patients.

The charity was established in 1984 to provide community palliative care to the people of Cardiff and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Emily Price, Practice Manager at Cardiff Veterinary Centre, said: “The whole team is so excited to be involved with Wag this Way. Everyone is looking forward to a fun-filled day and can’t wait to meet new dogs and their ‘pawrents’! From the sponsored walk to the festival event village, it will be an all-round brilliant day full of prizes and games while raising money at the same time for such a good cause.”

The event is also being supported by leading independent UK businesses with a presence in the city: corporate finance advisory firm Gambit Corporate Finance and builder’s merchant MKM.

Mac Smith, Fundraising & Events Manager at City Hospice, said: “We are looking forward to another fun-filled day in the company of our four legged friends this spring. The support of our sponsors, stallholders and our wonderful participants at this event will enable us to continue to care for Cardiff.”
