In two weeks’ time, young people and their families from across Wales will get a warm Powys welcome as one of Europe’s biggest youth festivals takes place.

Excitement is building up in communities across Powys for the Maldwyn 2024 Urdd Eisteddfod, which is being held on the fields of Mathrafal Farm by Meifod between 27 May and 1 June.

Powys County Council is delighted that this prestigious event is taking place in the county and has been working closely with the Urdd, the local organising committee, local communities, businesses and volunteers to make the most of the opportunities the Urdd Eisteddfod brings.

The council will have a prominent presence on the Maes (field) of the Eisteddfod and will be using the week as an opportunity to showcase Powys to those attending – through local product tasting, tourism and culture to Welsh language promotion and activities as well as promoting recruitment opportunities at the council.

There will also be fun and activities for children and young people to take part in.

Cllr James Gibson-Watt, Leader of Powys County Council, said: “We’re extremely excited and honoured that the 2024 Urdd Eisteddfod is taking place in Powys and to welcome children and young people and their families from across Wales as they attend and participate in this special festival.

“The Urdd Eisteddfod was last held in Montgomeryshire in 1988 and excitement has been growing for some time as the festival draws nearer.

“Powys County Council is incredibly proud to support this year’s event. I’m looking forward to the week ahead and encourage children, young people, families and friends from across Powys to take the opportunity to visit the Eisteddfod near Meifod.”
