Wales’ biggest building society will boost access to cash provision in Caerphilly, an area that has been affected by bank closures, with a cash kiosk in partnership with shared-banking innovator OneBanx.

The cash kiosk will be hosted in Principality’s Caerphilly branch, becoming the second available in Wales after launching in the Cowbridge branch last year to fulfil the society’s ongoing commitment to the high street. The kiosk enables individuals and business customers of major banks and building societies to deposit and withdraw cash without needing to use a card.

There is no charge for the service and the money is received immediately by the customer. The service is also available in the Welsh language.

With the introduction of a second kiosk location, Principality hopes to continue to introduce more of the kiosks in certain locations across the country which are not served by high street banks, allowing banking to be more accessible for Welsh communities. OneBanx has already implemented these facilities in parts of Scotland, the North East of England, and the East Midlands.

The service will be available during branch opening times six days a week, and customers needing assistance to use the service will be supported by Principality branch colleagues.

Vicky Wales, Chief Customer Officer at Principality Building Society, said: “Following our successful OneBanx pilot last year in Cowbridge, which remains an ongoing service in the branch, we’re pleased to announce the installation of OneBanx in our Caerphilly branch.

“Our members have told us that access to cash and services makes a real difference to them, contributing to a healthy high street and giving our members, colleagues and communities confidence. In an area that’s suffered from bank closures, we know that this service, and our ongoing loyalty to the high street, will help residents and businesses manage their finances, strengthening both the community and the local economy.”

Hefin David, MS for Caerphilly said: “The closure of banks locally have been of great concern to residents, so the launch of the cash kiosk in Principality will be a relief to those who still use in branch services. I look forward to visiting in the near future and will support the initiative however I can”.

Cllr James Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Caerphilly Council, said: “As a Council, we have worked proactively to support residents who have been impacted by banking closures by freeing up space in our libraries. So, we’re delighted to see the service Principality Building Society is bringing to their branch in Caerphilly, which will provide better face to face access to cash for members of the public and businesses”.

Javed Anjum, CEO of OneBanx, said:  We are proud to be the technology partners of Principality Building Society in bringing vital access to cash services to Caerphilly after a successful deployment at Cowbridge. User feedback from Cowbridge demonstrates that individuals, local businesses, clubs and charities value the all-encompassing nature of the service and in-person support available at the branch, no matter who they bank with.
