Scheme to install a new safe crossing point at Tynant Road

Residents in Beddau and Tynant are advised that two-way traffic lights will be used on sections of the B4595 from next week, to enable the installation of a new zebra crossing and to deliver other highway improvements.

The scheme will take place at two locations along the B4595 – at Parish Road (between Mildred Street and Fairview) and Tynant Road (between Garth View and Brynhyfryd). The new crossing will be installed at Tynant Road, while the existing Parish Road crossing will be raised. Road markings will be improved in the car park at Garth View, while a nearby bus stop will also be relocated.

The Council has appointed Calibre Contracting Ltd to deliver the works on site – and these will get underway from Monday, July 8, lasting around 11 weeks.

Two-way traffic lights are needed to carry out various aspects of the work, but no full road closures are anticipated. All work areas will be protected using barriers, while pedestrian routes will be clearly identified. Access to residents’ properties, and for emergency services, will be maintained at all times.

A spokesperson for Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “From Monday, these local works in Beddau and Tynant will install a new safe crossing point at Tynant Road, and raise the existing zebra crossing at Parish Road. The scheme will promote road safety at these busy locations in the community – encouraging more people to walk parts of their local journeys as an alternative to driving.

“Residents living locally will receive a letter that further explains the upcoming scheme in the week commencing July 1. Our appointed contractor will need to use two-way traffic lights for elements of the scheme – and officers will work closely with them to ensure good progress is made over the weeks ahead.”
