Ruthin Gaol, the historic Victorian prison museum located in the heart of Denbighshire has been awarded the Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Award for 2024. This recognition places Ruthin Gaol among the top-rated attractions, celebrating its dedication to delivering outstanding visitor experiences.

The Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Award is given annually to accommodation providers, attractions, and restaurants that consistently receive exceptional visitor reviews on the platform. This accolade highlights Ruthin Gaol’s commitment to preserving its unique history and engaging visitors through its interactive exhibits, educational tours, and family trails.

Ruthin Gaol offers a captivating insight into daily life under the Victorian prison ‘silent system’. From its atmospheric basement to the iconic Pentonville-style upper level, visitors can experience its captivating architecture, explore the cells and discover stories of infamous inmates such as the Welsh Houdini. With a thorough audio-guide and plenty of family activities to entertain younger visitors, Ruthin Gaol continues to be a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and families alike.

Councillor Emrys Wynne, Lead Member for Welsh Language, Culture & Heritage said:

“Ruthin Gaol is an extremely popular attraction, which we are lucky to have sitting right on our doorstep here in Denbighshire.

The Gaol offers a unique experience to visitors, and the audio tours offer plenty of information about the Victorian era site.”

Philippa Jones, Operations and Development Manager said:

“We are incredibly honoured to receive the Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Award.

This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here at Ruthin Gaol who work tirelessly to create new and engaging ways of bringing the Gaol’s history to life.

We’re so glad that visitors are leaving having had an experience that they want to share so positively with others on TripAdvisor. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to leave us a review.”
