More than 50 businesses and organisations are already booked to exhibit at a major Green Economy Event in Swansea Arena on Tuesday 19th November.

Business leaders say South West Wales is poised to become a green economy hub for the UK thanks to key regional developments, including a new Green Economy Centre of Excellence and major offshore wind developments in the Celtic Sea.
A campaign is underway to ensure that all regional businesses are taking advantage of opportunities for sustainable growth, whilst taking steps to decarbonise their activities and embrace “circular economy” principles.

The Green Economy Conference & Exhibition 2024, organised by 4theRegion in partnership with Consumer Energy Solutions, Swansea Council and Natural Products BioHub, will bring together businesses and organisations in South West Wales to share knowledge that will help co-create a resilient future.
The event is free to attend and open to everyone in Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. There will be talks, decarbonisation workshops, networking opportunities and a large exhibition of regional businesses who are leading the transition to a green economy by offering a range of sustainable products and services.
Stephen Williams, Director of Consumer Energy Solutions, said, “We are proud to support this vital initiative to build a resilient, sustainable future across South West Wales. Collaboration is key to driving impactful change, and this event is a fantastic opportunity for businesses and organisations to come together, share ideas, and take collective action towards a greener economy.”
New for 2024, the Sustainable Construction Zone will demonstrate how the construction sector is embracing change, with industry speakers, a showcase of new technologies and sustainable building materials, including ways to improve efficiency of existing housing stock. Training and support will also be highlighted, and organisers are keen to see small construction businesses and local traders attending the event to ensure they are aware of opportunities.
Dawn Lyle, Director of 4theRegion, said, “Evidence shows that many customers will pay a premium for sustainable products and services. When tendering for public sector contracts, businesses need to show that they have a decarbonisation plan in place. This is the direction of travel for our economy, and we hope that businesses across our region will take advantage of this event to get up to speed.”
Talks on the main stage will highlight some of the big opportunities in South West Wales’ green economy, including a Renewable Energy discussion chaired by Luciana Ciubotariu, CEO of Celtic Freeport. This will include a discussion of why community ownership of renewable energy assets is important for tackling deprivation and creating a resilient future.
Dr Andy Rees, Head of Waste Strategy at Welsh Government, will chair a discussion about the circular economy, showcasing examples of regional businesses creating value from recycled materials and discussing the support available to grow circular businesses in the region.
Zoe Antrobus, Director of 4theRegion, said, “Everyone is concerned about climate change and the environmental impact of the way we live and work. Lots of positive things are already happening in South West Wales, so this event brings them all together under one roof. It’s an unmissable day for anyone who wants to see our region develop a successful green economy, which is so important for our young people, communities, natural environment and for our regional businesses.”
The Green Economy Conference & Exhibition takes place on Tuesday 19th November at Swansea Arena, from 9am-5pm, and is open to all. Anyone wishing to attend must register for their free ticket at https://www.4theregion.org.uk/green-economy-conference-2024/.
