A team of talented Welsh fighters from Penlan, Llandarcy, and Ammanford have returned home from the World Kickboxing and Karate Championships in Greece, bringing back an impressive collection of medals.
Facing off against some of the world’s top martial artists, the Welsh team showed exceptional skill, dedication, and sportsmanship, securing a total of 12 Gold, 2 Silver, and 10 Bronze medals.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our team,” said Chief Instructor, Daniel Parker. “Their hard work, dedication, and unity truly showed in Greece and bringing home such a significant number of medals reflects not only their talent but also the fantastic support from our communities and the Welsh martial arts family.” he continued.
The week-long championship was held at the Rodos Palace Hotel in Rhodes, and featured teams from around the globe who gathered to compete in intense matches across various categories.
The team’s success was bolstered by the strong support they received from local businesses, whose sponsorship made a significant impact on their journey helping with costs for travel, accommodation, equipment and more.
“The generosity and encouragement from local businesses have been instrumental in this achievement,” reflected Mr Parker, “and without their support, some of our team may not have been able to compete.”
The Welsh team’s performance serves as an inspiration to future generations of martial artists in Wales, highlighting the strength of the grassroots programmes in place and the invaluable role of community support in cultivating world-class athletes.
