Christmas is in full swing across Cwmdare, and this weekend saw Santa pay a special visit to children and their families as he made his way through the village on his sleigh.

Santa and his elves meandered through the village streets, spreading festive cheer as they delivered gifts to youngsters. This weekend’s activities followed those of last weekend which saw Cwmdare4Cwmdare (C4C) host a party and carols around the Christmas tree.

The events in Cwmdare had the support of local energy company, Pennant Walters, which provided funding. They will continue next week when Cwmdare Miners Welfare Club will host Breakfast with the Elves – a craft morning for youngsters.

Cllr. Ann Crimmings, Secretary of C4C, said:

“It’s fantastic to see the village come to life at this special time of year and we have seen a great turnout to all events, so far.

“Santa’s visit is always a firm highlight in our annual calendar, and we have certainly seen our younger community members faces light up this Christmas.

“Pennant Walters has been a long-term supporter to C4C and, once again, I’d like to extend my thanks to them on behalf of the whole Cwmdare community.”

Pennant Walters provided the money from a fund linked to its Mynydd Bwllfa windfarm. It builds on previous donations which have seen the company provide money to support Cwmdar Primary and various other community groups in the area.

Pennant Walters Managing Director, Dale Hart, said:

“We are happy to support the wonderful work of the C4C volunteers who always go the extra mile to ensure the Cwmdare community come together and fly the flag for community spirit.

“Our wind energy project community funds exist to make a difference to the local communities in which we work, and it’s clear to see that these events do just this.”
