Conservation areas are distinct areas of special architectural or historic merit. Ceredigion County Council is required, from time to time, to review conservation areas in the County and formulate proposals for their preservation and enhancement.

The Council is preparing or updating our Conservation Area Appraisals in order to identify the things that make these areas special and any opportunities or problems that may exist. The Appraisals form the basis for more detailed Management Plans. The Management Plans set out appropriate responses to address any opportunities and issues.

Draft Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans have been prepared for the following areas:

    • Aberaeron
    • Aberystwyth
    • Cardigan
    • Lampeter
    • Llanbadarn Fawr
    • Llandysul
    • New Quay
    • Tregaron

The Council is seeking to adopt these Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans as Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG). This means they will be taken into account as a material consideration when determining planning applications which impact the Conservation Areas.

Further information, including on how to access the documents and respond to the consultation, can be found on the Consultation Page of the Council’s website.

The consultation period is now open and you can share your views until Sunday 9 March 2025. All comments will be acknowledged and will be made public.

Councillor Clive Davies, Ceredigion’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “Conservation Areas Appraisals help us safeguard the historic sites in our county for future generations. I would encourage local residents to share their views so that Ceredigion’s distinctive heritage can be managed for generations to come.”

If you have any queries regarding the documents, contact the Planning Policy Team by emailing [email protected] or phoning 01545 570881 and asking for Planning Policy.
