Newport City Council can confirm that painting work on the Newport city footbridge will start on Tuesday 22 April.

The painting work follows on from previous maintenance work on the bridge, which included a full clean of the structure, and noise reduction work on the deck of the bridge.

“I’m delighted that the repainting of the bridge will start next week,” said Councillor Dimitri Batrouni, leader of the council.

“The footbridge is one of the key landmarks of our city, one which we know our residents take pride in. When I became leader last year, I made a promise that we would get it cleaned and painted, and we are delivering on this promise.

“Investing in our infrastructure is vital to our success as a city. We have even more investment in our roads, pavements, bus shelters and streetlights planned for the year ahead as we get on with delivering the priorities that our residents want us to sort.”

It is anticipate that the painting work will take around 14 weeks to complete.

Timescales are weather dependent and could be impacted in the event of wet weather. Windy spells could also make conditions unsafe for contractors.

During this period, to ensure that work can be carried out safely, the bridge will be closed at certain times.
