BRIDGEND-based housing association Valleys to Coast has acquired 20 homes in Blaenllynfi, part-funded by the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant.
The grant supports the provision of affordable housing for those most in need, contributing to the government’s target of providing 20,000 low-carbon social homes by 2026. The new development in Maesteg comprises 14 one-bed flats and six two-four bed houses, providing homes for families, couples and individuals in Bridgend. Seven of the flats are also ground-level with wetrooms. The homes were built using modern methods of construction, including pre-assembled timber frames, to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the development. The EPC-A energy rating of the homes will help families to save money by keeping their utility costs low.
James Griffiths, Managing Director of Development & Regeneration at Valleys to Coast said: “Safe and happy homes are fundamental to our health and wellbeing, and provide foundations for families and communities to thrive, so we’re extremely proud to be providing 56 people with a safe and comfortable home and the opportunity to put down roots in Bridgend. These homes have been allocated by Bridgend Council to those most in need of an affordable place to live, including six families. We’ve also ensured that the properties are environmentally-friendly, opting for air source pumps to heat them, further supporting our ambition to develop homes fit for the future.”
The developer of the site, Pendragon, has contributed £2,000 to Noddfa Community Project, a local initiative offering activities, classes, and accredited learning for adults and children. A further £5,830 is being put towards a new community fund that Valleys to Coast is due to launch later this year.
Valleys to Coast provides over 6,000 affordable homes across Bridgend and Rhondda Cynon Taf, alongside a portfolio of commercial properties, garages and leasehold flats. It was established in 2003 as the first large-scale voluntary transfer of council-owned homes to a social housing association in Wales.
